Calls for Brown to Scrap ID Cards

The spiraling cost of ID cards is not something that will surprise anyone who knows even the smallest things about government IT projects. Still breaking the law by releasing a report that details the costs over a month late stands out as shameful.  Even against the daily spin and cynicism we have grown accustomed to with the neo-labor government. Lets hope Brown sees some sense on this one and puts the boot in.

Of course whilst this unpopular project is storming ahead with full steam another well-established institution aka the Post Office looks in trouble, with the news that 2,500 are set to close. The setup of the ID card system and the creation of the new enrolment centers means that the post office will in years to come no longer run the passport service. So it will be a long trip and a large cash payout for those required to get a new e-passport & ID card in the future.
